Health is one of the top 4 indicators of overall life satisfaction and fulfillment. The other three are love, wealth, and self-expression (doing fulfilling work).
I personally believe that health is our number one indicator of life satisfaction because if we’re unhealthy, we can’t fully enjoy any of the other meaningful elements in our life.
When we’re sick nothing else seems to matter and depending on the severity of the illness, our time and energy to enjoy anything are depleted.
For those who feel guilty about spending time on themselves (calling out the moms and caretakers, here), those who answer the early alarm clock or make sure to take care of themselves after work, are happier and more productive at home.
Fall is a perfect back-to-wellness time. As summer vacation vibes cool off and the kids head back to school, an internal compass seems to put our attention on health, fitness, and personal development.
It’s a great time to recommit to ourselves, boost our confidence, and finish the year strong!

Although some like to see yoga as a vehicle for transformation, I tend to define it differently.
Yoga allows us to delve into an experience with ourselves, without asking that we radically change who we are.
It deepens our experience of our true nature and allows us to connect to all thoughts, feelings, sensations, senses, stories, and perhaps memories.
What we may uncover during the process of our yoga journey may not be welcome or understood, but we are all complicated beings being asked to live extraordinary lives in some very difficult and complex environments.
So, yoga is not truly an experience of transformation; rather, it is a journey into knowing.
In 2013, I was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer, and perhaps that is when I actually started listening to myself.
My inner work continues because it must, and my body will follow the pursuit of my heart and mind.
Again, I see that freedom is the pursuit of my yoga. And I sincerely hope that my story will inspire others to seek their own truth.

We knew it was risky but we wanted to start a business here that could help people gain knowledge about their mind-body connection and overall longevity in mobility.
I was the master instructor but got busy quickly and needed Talani’s [Lisa’s partner] help. So he started to go through some of the Pilates certification and we hired a few other instructors as well.
Word got out with our clients that Talani enjoyed creating chefs’ tastings, and so he began cooking dinners for our clients in their homes.
After the studio was up and running for five years, we started looking for a space where we could open our first restaurant and cocktail bar.
It was in September 2019 that we opened Grit and Tonic. We want to make people happy through delicious food and drinks that take them on a journey or adventure, or give them memories of places they’ve been before or traveled to.
